VERITAS Software Announces Surge in NAS and SAN Backup and Recovery License Figures

VERITAS Software, the storage software company, announced new licence sales figures today showcasing a 335% increase (first half 2001 versus first half 2000) in network area storage (NAS) solutions (VERITAS NetBackup™ with NDMP), and a 246 percent increase for storage area network (SAN)-related backup and recovery software (VERITAS NetBackup™ SAN Shared Storage Option). These news license figures demonstrate that the market for networked storage software solutions remains strong, enabling VERITAS Software to expand its market share of open storage management software solutions as companies seek to optimise their use of storage hardware and IT resources in this challenging economic climate. VERITAS Software's dominant position in the storage management software market is underscored by an independent study produced by Gartner Dataquest in April 2001. According to the Gartner report, VERITAS Software is the leading vendor world-wide in the storage virtualisation software sub-segment of the market, commanding a 96.2 percent market share. VERITAS Software also leads in providing Networked Backup and Recovery solutions by capturing 38 percent of the market, with the nearest competitor in this sub-segment registering a 20 percent market share figure. This study is based on total new license revenue of $5.3 billion.
